Te Kupenga: 101 Stories of Aotearoa from the Turnbull
16 July 2021
So it’s done! 101 stories have been selected by editors Michael Keith and Chris Szekely and developed into our centenary book, Te Kupenga. And today it has gone to print.
A total of 38 librarians, curators and library staff wrote of their favourite things from the Turnbull collection. The resulting 101 short essays are from a personal perspective, edited and refined to highlight the importance, intrigue or fascination of each item selected.
Stunningly digitised by the Library’s Imaging Team, this picture book celebrates a mere splash of the colour and compelling items the collection holds. Each item’s story is told through the writer’s personal lens of how this piece of the collection captivates their heart and mind.
The resulting hard-backed coffee table publication will be donated to all secondary schools in New Zealand just in time for the introduction of the new history curriculum in 2022. We hope that it will stimulate a new generation to form their perspective on the heritage held in the Turnbull.
Available for presales on our website shortly, delivery will be in November 2021.
