Turnbull Endowment Trust: Celebrating collaboration

28 June 2022

The 28th of June commemorates the anniversary of Alexander Turnbull’s death and celebrates the opening day of the library two years later in 1920.

A serendipitous date therefore, after repeated delays, to celebrate the collaboration that resulted in Te Kupenga:101 stories of Aotearoa from the Turnbull. Editors, writers, imaging specialists, online collaborators, curators and conservators celebrated at a much-anticipated lunch, courtesy of the Trust.

At the event we were able to share news from our publisher at Massey University Press:

I wanted to let you know that Te Kupenga has been a great success for us – so much so that we have sold out of the copies in our warehouse.  This is a sales performance that far exceeds other museum/ library collections that we have published, and it has rather caught us by surprise.”

With copies now in all secondary schools in New Zealand and the Services to Schools online offering available as a teaching resource, we are thrilled to see the Friends of the Turnbull now using Te Kupenga as the basis for their 2022 Smart Alex competition.

A true collaboration of organisations who believe in the concept of viewing the Alexander Turnbull Library collection contents through your own lens, stimulating thought and discussion of histories past and present.

The Trust extends its thanks to all who have made this centenary dream into such a successful reality.
