Anthony Stones Busts
13 July 2021
Anthony Stones, well-known TV set designer and sculptor, was commissioned by the Alexander Turnbull Library and the Friends of the Turnbull to produce three-dimensional busts of historians, poets and writers key to New Zealand’s history.
W Neil Plimmer has a special affinity with three-dimensional works. His work as chairman of the Wellington Sculpture Trust brought 17 new public works to Wellington.
Currently a board member of the Turnbull Endowment Trust, Neil wished to share the sculptures held at the library and generously made a donation that allowed the Library to digitize the busts. Furthermore, work is underway to exhibit the busts at the Library early in 2022.
It is surprising what the Alexander Turnbull Library holds. This outstanding series of busts deserves to be shared with the world and his is now a possibility. The digital images can be viewed in the Reading Room at the Alexander Turnbull Library.
Thank you to Neil for his support.
